LA County Board of Supervisors Extends County Tenant Protections

On January 25, 2023 The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted to extend the temporary County Tenant Protections currently in effect through March 31, 2023. The County Tenant Protections include:

(i) Restrictions that prohibit a rent increase for rent-stabilized units in unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County

(ii) Impose safeguards against evictions for:

A. Non-payment of rent between July 1, 2022 and March 31, 2023 due to a COVID-19 related financial hardship for qualifying tenants
B. Nuisance
C. “No-fault” eviction reasons
D. Unauthorized occupants or pets that began residing in the unit between March 1, 2020, and January 20, 2023.

The County Tenant Protections apply to all the Los Angeles unincorporated areas and the incorporated city within the County. The LA County Board of Supervisors had previously approved several extensions of the County Tenant Protections and will likely consider further extensions in late February.
